Introducing Novemburger

Forget about burger week, United Way of Thunder Bay is deeming it a burger month!

Eleven restaurants are partnering with United Way of Thunder Bay throughout the month of November for a new fundraiser and burger challenge. Novemburger is a friendly competition that will help United Way of Thunder Bay make issues like hunger #UNIGNORABLE.

Throughout the month of November, the community is challenged to visit participating restaurants to try versions of each location’s signature Novemburger. For each burger sold, $2 will be donated to United Way of Thunder Bay. Diners can then go online and cast their vote and rate what they ate, by selecting their favourite burger.

Says 2019 Campaign Co-Chair, Angela Beaucage; “Thunder Bay loves a good burger, and Novemburger is a great way to get the community involved in raising funds for United Way of Thunder Bay. Not only do you get delicious eats, but you can also support a worthy cause and local business. Enjoy a good burger or two, and know you’re making a difference.”

Novemburger is expecting burgers with all sorts of toppings, sauces and cheese. Each restaurant will be vying for the esteemed titles of “The most Novemburgers Sold” and “Novemburger of the Year”. Participating locations include Beaux Daddy’s, Beefcake Burger Factory, Bonobo’s Foods, Daytona’s, Neebing Roadhouse, Portside Restaurant & Bar, Prospector Burger Barn, Prospector Steak House, Red Lion Smokehouse, Roosters Bistro, and The Sal.

Burger lover Damien Gilbert was at Daytona’s today to help kick off the very first Novemburger. He along with four other Novemburger Ambassadors took the inaugural Novemburger bite. “I have a deep love for burgers and a good competition! Eleven locations—challenge accepted!”

By participating in the fundraising event, each diner can print their very own Novemburger Passport by visiting uwaytbay.ca. Passports are stamped at each location for the opportunity to win a local gift certificate. Novemburger participants are also encouraged to take a photo while enjoying their burger and share it on their social accounts with #Novemburgeruwaytbay. The diner with the best photo will win the opportunity to be the face of 2020 food campaign and have their photo on the event poster.

Novemburger will have burgers for everyone, including a Spicy Barnhouse burger, a blueberry basil bbq brie burger, a vegetarian option, and of course more traditional sandwiches. Says 2019 Campaign Co-Chair, Andrew Richert; “We are hoping to see thousands of burgers flipped in Thunder Bay throughout the month of November. Check out your favourite places and try new ones. Novemburger is a great way to explore the culinary scene in Thunder Bay. Restaurants are ready for hungry burger lovers! “

The United Way of Thunder Bay team is working to make local issues of poverty #UNIGNORABLE in 2019. For every $1300 raised, 120 meals can be provided for four weeks through a local community kitchen.
