GenNext Member Profile – Zahid (Zee) Hasan, GenNext Cabinet Member

Zahid (Zee) Hasan has been a United Way GenNext Cabinet member since September 2016, making him one of the longest current cabinet members! Zee started by participating in the Day of Caring coordinated by GenNext in June 2010, where he experienced a fun, interesting, and hands-on day of completing renovations for Evergreen A United Neighbourhood. Since then, he has never looked back and has been volunteering in various events for United Way of Thunder Bay, thus sparking his interest to join the GenNext Cabinet in June of 2016.

He has made Thunder Bay his home for the past 10 years, and joined GenNext to work with other young professionals to make a difference in our community. Zee sees GenNext as an opportunity to not only network and build connections for himself, but also to create opportunities for fellow community members to engage and make positive change in Thunder Bay.

Currently Zee is a Finance & Administrative Officer for the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities where he tackles Human Resources / Finance related databases and issues.

In addition to volunteering with the United Way, Zee makes time in his busy schedule to volunteer for a number of other groups and organizations. In his place of employment, he volunteers as the United Way of Thunder Bay ECC Ambassador, the Special Events Planner & Organizer, Health & Safety Committee member, and acts as the Union Workplace Representative. On his down time, he also sits as an Executive Board Director on both SHIFT: Thunder Bay’s Young Professional Network and MCI: Muslim Cultural Institute. He also volunteers for Zone Watch, Muslim Community of Thunder Bay, Shelter House, and the Salvation Army.

A fun fact about Zee is that he has experienced a 100 degrees Celsius change in his life time! Zee was born and raised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates where the temperature goes up to 50 degrees Celsius easily; he now lives in Thunder Bay where the temperature goes down below 50 degrees Celsius with wind chill on some days!

We are so grateful for Zee’s dedication and drive to make a difference for our city. He has been an integral part of our team and we are so happy to have him on GenNext!
