GenNext Member Profile – Colleen Peters, Chair of GenNext

Colleen has been a part of United Way’s GenNext since January 2017. In that time, Colleen has served as a volunteer coordinator and is now the Chair of the GenNext Cabinet. Colleen joined GenNext as a meaningful way to give back to the community through donating to the United Way of Thunder Bay and providing hands-on volunteer service to not only the United Way but to its network of local agency partners as well.

Colleen has worked at the John Howard Society of Thunder Bay & District since 2007, where she started as a Re-Integration Coordinator. She is currently the Training & Development Manager where she supervises frontline staff and provides training to employees, as well as facilitates community training for Mental Health First Aid Basic, Mental Health First Aid for Youth, and De-Escalating Potentially Violent Situations. Her education background is in Social Work, Gerontology, Psychology, and Concurrent Disorders.

Not only does Colleen volunteer for GenNext and United Way, but she is also an active volunteer with the Thunder Pride Association, the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association Board of Directors, and the Caribbean & African Multicultural Association of Thunder Bay Board of Directors.

A fun fact about Colleen is that she plays 7 different musical instruments including piano, violin, viola, clarinet, french horn, flute, and the bagpipes (at least the chanter).

We are so appreciative of the dedication, enthusiasm, and leadership that Colleen brings to our team!
