JOANNE KEMBEL ANNOUNCES HER RETIREMENT AS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE UNITED WAY
OF THUNDER BAY
March 29, 2016, THUNDER BAY – After a remarkable 28 year career serving her community, United Way of Thunder Bay Executive Director, Joanne Kembel, announced she will be retiring this spring.
During those 28 years, a lot has changed. The first year Joanne was in her position, the Campaign raised $665,235 and now, the 2015 Campaign successfully raised $2,654,870. Joanne also facilitated the United Way during its movement from an organization that held a single focus of funding 13 member agencies , to a Campaign that supports 64 programs in 2016 , offers a donor designation option, has seen a huge growth in employee campaigns, developed a Leaders of the Way Program and a Corporate Leader Campaign. Joanne’s leadership also helped the United Way of Thunder Bay become a leader in impacting the community, by identifying pressing social issues, and collaborating with other organizations to address the root causes.
“It has been an exciting experience, watching the United Way grow in prominence in our community over these past years. I’ve been fortunate enough to have spent my career with people, who put their time and energy towards making a difference in our community,” said Joanne, “and with the tremendous dedication of our staff, volunteers, and loyal community members, we will continue to see the impact that donor dollars can
Joanne will continue to serve in her role until May 20, 2016, at which time, Jered Zieroth, current Assistant Executive, will take on the role of Executive Director.
Jered is looking forward to taking on this new role, and is thankful for all the work Joanne has done. “I feel like I am standing on the shoulders of giant,” said Jered, “I am only as tall, and will be able to reach as high as I can because of the incredible person who has gone before me. After 28 years of service from Joanne in this community there is an incredible sense of strength because of that.”
